Ingredients:
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/4 cup cocoa powder
- 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1 egg
- 1/2 cup buttermilk
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 tablespoon orange zest
- Orange food coloring
- For Filling:
- 4 oz cream cheese, softened
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 2 cups powdered sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- Orange food coloring
Instructions:
Warm the oven up to 350F 175C and put parchment paper on baking sheets
Mix flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt together in a bowl
Mix the butter and sugar in a different bowl until the mixture is light and fluffy
Add the egg and beat well
Add the orange zest, buttermilk, and vanilla extract, and mix well
Add orange food coloring until the color you want is reached
Mix until smooth as you slowly add the dry ingredients to the wet ones
Using a piping bag, pipe rounds in the shape of pumpkins on the baking sheets that have been prepared
Put it in the oven for 10 to 12 minutes, or until the edges are set
The cookies should cool for a few minutes on the baking sheets before being moved to a wire rack to cool all the way
Mix the butter and cream cheese together until they are smooth
Add the powdered sugar and vanilla extract slowly while beating the mixture until it is smooth
For a holiday look, add orange food coloring
Put the cooled cookies together based on their size and shape
On the flat side of one cookie, pipe or spread the filling
Then, put another cookie between them
Do this with all of the cookies to make the whoopie pies
Put it in the fridge for about 30 minutes before you serve it
